Cover notes:

The first and last songs on Live from the Heart of Dixie were recorded at the Saengar Theatre in Mobile, AL by some of the finest studio equipment available today. Multi-track recording and noise protection leave no room for error in quality and balance, but unfortunately, they don't always insure an inspired performance by musicians. After watching a video-tape of the concert, it was obvious that there was a certain tension throughout much of the performance stage with a lack of spontaneity and "looseness" which are essential to a great live recording. The night had its moments, but it seemed that if anyone was spontaneous and "loose," it was the audience!

So we picked the best cuts, with the best audience response and included them along with a recording made at Solomon Alfred's Night Club in Memphis, Tennessee. Here the band was not aware that they were being recorded, and although the quality is not superb (it was recorded on a portable cassette machine) the performers were anything but tense … especially after a few visits to the bar. Here we are captured in our true live form, craziness still intact. Of course, there were crazy moments at the Saengar concert, too, preserved on our "Live Punk Jazz from the Heart of Dixie" EP, included in this jacket.

Cover notes:

North of the Mason-Dixon is a collection of five original pieces written and recorded during the Great Blizzard of 1978 in Cincinnati, Ohio. We met such warm and friendly people while working in the Cincinnati area that we decided to make the nine hour trip from Birmingham to Ohio to record one tune we needed to complete the album. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to work with many fine Cincinnati musicians on this song.

We’d like to thank Frank Vincent, Mike Wheeler, Steve Hoskins, Rita Becker, and Ellen Goldman for the good time and hot track. Also the folks at 5th Floor Recording Studio for making us feel so at home while recording our material.

The need to record this other tune came after our live recordings in the South left us with more than an albums worth of music. We moved the experimental tune of Scott’s to an extended play record (a seven inch record played at 33⅓) and are calling it our Punk Jazz EP. It, like the album, contains material from North of the Mason-Dixon and the Heart of the Dixie.

I hope you’ll enjoy this collection of songs from our second album project. We sure had a good time putting it together for you.
